=Cleaning the Lab=

Keeping the FWP space clean is everyone's responsibility. We do not have a cleaner and we work with film, which can get easily full of dust or scratches and with (sometimes) very toxic substances. It is very important to collective contribute to proper and safe working conditions in the Lab. We suggest that every time you use the Lab, you do a cleaning task from the list below.

Rules for handling equipment

Our equipment is very precious and needs to be treated with care. For this reason, there are a couple of rules that all members should follow to ensure our equipment lasts as long as possible.

LOMO tanks

Our tanks originate from Petersburg, USSR and are made in the famous LOMO factory (Leningradskoye Optiko-Mekhanicheskoye Obyedinenie). Since the last day of production is in the early 80s, these processing tanks are almost antique. Made of bakelite and therefore (also considering their age) very fragile! As they are utterly important and essential for our DIY film lab association, it is very important to handle them with care.

When using the LOMO tanks:

1. Don’t use force

2. Don’t tighten the core

3. Dry the tank parts on a towel on a flat surface

4. Lid and tank body are a pair, don’t interchange them

5. Always dry the spiral flat with the parts together.

6. Don’t put anything on top of the spiral parts.

7. Don’t drop any part (the core part is round and likely to roll when in total darkness)

8. Don’t roll the film out when the spiral parts are together. Take the top spiral out before your start rolling your film.

9. Never blow dry the spiral or tank or put near or on top of a heating system.

Using LOMO tanks the right and wrong way

Access keys & locking

Always put the access keys and tags back after you use them. Always check if all the doors of the Lab are closed when you leave.

Booking the Lab

All members need to schedule their time in the Lab via the FWP Google calendar (you can find an example of a booking in the calendar on the 1st of every month). This already improves Lab access and use, especially for the members who travel from other cities. All members should be able to view and edit this joint calendar. If you cannot see or add events, please get in touch with us.

To book a timeslot:

1. First make sure you are editing the FWP Calendar and not one of your private ones :)

1. Name the event with your name and the room(s) you will be using (e.g, Raluca Bigroom 1 & smallroom C)

2. Choose the specific timeslot you will be working in the Lab (e.g, 10:00 - 15:00)

3. In the description of the event, mention the activities you will do in each room + if these rooms are shareable or non-shareable. Shareable means another member can work in the same space at the same time as you (e.g, Developing in Bigroom 1 (shareable) and printing in Bigroom 3 (non-shareable))

Renting equipment

On this Excel sheet you can check the standard and the professional packages available, the related financial contribution and the overall equipment we have available.

When you want to rent one of the packages:

  1. add a comment underneath it with your e-mail address and the desired rental period
  2. Wait for the confirmation before picking up the equipment.
  3. The equipment can only be picked-up and/or returned on Mondays and Fridays.
  4. Make the payment via Tikkie on the spot.

Cleaning the Lab

Keeping the FWP space clean is everyone's responsibility. We do not have a cleaner and we work with film, which can get easily full of dust or scratches and with (sometimes) very toxic substances. It is very important to collective contribute to proper and safe working conditions in the Lab. We suggest that every time you use the Lab, you do a cleaning task from the list below.
