Bell&Howell model C at Filmwerkplaats

This Bell&Howell model C is an additive colour printer with a RGB (red-green-blue light) lamp house. This printer operates now with a controller that is designed by James Rubery (in accordance with the original manual). This controller is to operate the 3 valves in RGB in 0 to 50 steps each. 0 is closed and 50 is completely open. 12 steps is 1 stop

The gate has the options

  • composite = full image including optical sound outline
  • picture = only the image, no outline framing
  • sound pos = only the optical sound part when printed as positive from a negative
  • sound rev = only the optical sound part when printed as positive from a positive. The framing is a fraction bigger than sound pos to avoid a white line in between image and sound track.

Standard filtering for printing Colour + B&W on the B&H model C

B&H 12 steps = 1 stop (equivalents 0.30 ND in Kodak wratten filters)

–      valve range 1 – 50 steps

–      knobs 1 – 24 steps
